This time of year is when friends and family are gathering, and the last thing you want or need is to have problems with your furnace. You want your family and guests to be comfortable, so let’s look at some common HVAC problems that can occur during the winter months.
Do you have some areas in your home that are especially cold, while others are inexplicably warm? There are a number of reasons for hot and cold spots, a few of which are:
- Improperly zoned home
- Poorly insulated ductwork
- Wrong size heating or cooling system
Drake can troubleshoot these areas and stabilize your home’s temperature for maximum comfort.
Ever wake up on an especially frigid morning, turn on the faucet and nothing comes out? Or worse, a busted pipe has flooded your kitchen? These are serious concerns in the wintertime that can be alleviated when you follow some measures to prevent frozen pipes:
- Insulate your pipes, as exposed pipes are more likely to freeze.
- Let faucets drip, especially overnight.
- Open cabinets and doors to allow heat to circulate around pipes
Cold Air from Furnace
There are a couple of things to check when you’re feeling cold air coming from your furnace.
First, check if your thermostat is set correctly, and if your filters are clean.
For older systems, it’s possible the pilot light has gone out – in which case it’s safest to contact a professional from Drake to re-light.
If your system has a flame sensor instead of a pilot light, it could be that it’s dirty. Regular HVAC maintenance can include the cleaning of flame sensors.
